Founded in 2017, Mountain Generator Service Inc. is a small but fast growing power generation maintenance and repair company based in Asheville, North Carolina. We provide in-field maintenance, remote monitoring, and repair services for most types of power generation equipment. Serving most of Western North Carolina, we pride ourselves on excellent customer service and being a trusted resource in the power generation industry to our clients.
We are currently seeking a Generator Field Maintenance Technician to join our growing team. Get to travel around the mountains of beautiful Western North Carolina, see sights few get to see, all while growing your career. Small engine mechanics, engine mechanics, diesel mechanics, or electricians with a mechanical background would make an excellent candidate. Training provided to the right candidate.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide preventative maintenance services on air cooled and liquid cooled standby generators ranging in size from 1 – 150kW according to manufacturer and company standards and procedures.
  • Troubleshoot and repair air cooled standby generator systems.
  • Identify repairs and provide estimates to clients.
  • Troubleshoot and repair portable generators in shop, provide repair estimates, and track jobs to completion.
  • Perform work as assigned by dispatch or management, clearly document work, and follow up as needed.
  • Follow safety procedures and properly use PPE.
  • Restock company vehicle as per stock list as well as prepare for future jobs.
  • Maintain company vehicle and keep neat, clean, and organized.
  • Participate in minor housekeeping items as needed to keep a clean and safe work environment.
  • Participate in 24 hour emergency on call rotation program.

Preferred Skills/Requirements:

  • Great customer service skills are a must.
  • The job takes place almost entirely outdoors. Tolerance to working in all types of weather conditions is required.
  • Provide own basic hand tools.  (Required tool list available upon request/Job specific tools provided)
  • Troubleshooting and repair experience with residential/commercial generators, small engines, or electrical.
  • Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams/schematics.
  • Ability to use Android based smartphone/tablet, windows based computers, and Microsoft Office software.
  • Problem solve and make logical decisions.
  • Ability to drive and navigate a cargo van or medium duty pickup truck for long distances.
  • Be self motivated and willing to follow direction.
  • Have a clean driving record, be drug free and pass a dmv/criminal background screening.
  • Flexibility to work outside of normal working hours and willingness to work occasional overtime.
  • Flexibility to work weekends and holidays as needed for on call technician program.

Physical Demands:

  • While performing this job, Field Maintenance Technicians are regularly required to:

    • Drive/sit for long distances.
    • Use hand and fingers or feel.
    • Reach with hands and arms.
    • Stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl.
    • Lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. and occasionally up to 100 lbs.
    • Be exposed to moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions (extreme heat and cold), and risk of electrical shock.
